At just 10 years old, Portland’s Zay the Maker isn’t a newcomer to music—he’s a lifelong prodigy who just opened the vault. Having played drums since age four, Zay officially introduced his multi-instrumental sound to the world in March 2026. The impact was immediate: within months, he cultivated a dedicated local fanbase, secured venue bookings throughout the Portland metro area, and earned arena spins at the Moda Center during the NBA Playoffs alongside radio broadcasts on Jam'n 107.5 and XRAY Radio with DJ Klyph. Fusing live drum chops with West Coast slap alongside co-producer Akronym Beats, Zay represents the next generation of unfiltered Northwest talent.

Born in Portland, Oregon in 2015, Zay the Maker’s life has always been set to a rhythm. Sitting behind a drum kit by age four, Zay spent his early childhood mastering complex rudiments and building a pocket deeper than a vintage record crate. But while his passion for music started in toddlerhood, the world only recently got its first look at what he’s been building.
In March 2026, Zay officially stepped out from behind the studio doors to share his talent publicly. What followed was an absolute whirlwind: after taking 1st place at his very first open mic showcase at 503 Records, his breakout single "Portland Stand Up" caught fire. By April, the track was echoing through the Moda Center—spun live by DJ O.G. ONE during the Portland Trail Blazers' NBA Playoff run—broken on Jam'n 107.5, and featured on XRAY Radio with DJ Klyph.
In just a few short months since his public debut, Zay has built a dedicated local following and booked a string of performances across Portland and the surrounding metro area. Operating with a 'can-do' independent drive, Zay crafts much of his heavy-hitting West Coast bounce alongside co-producer Akronym Beats, bridging generational gaps by blending analog soul with modern 808s.
Capped off by earning the 2026 Portland Hip Hop Week "In Good Hands" Award at the STAR Awards, Zay the Maker has proven that while his public story is only a few months old, his craft has been a decade in the making. The vault is open, the blueprint is set, and the Maker is just getting started.
